Capacity building on Takaful and Microtakaful
The remit included the attendance at a session on Takaful at the inaugural World Bank/IFC Global Insurance Conference entitled 'Developing Insurance in the Face of New Challenges', which took place on June 1-2, 2011 at the World Bank headquarters. The presentation on “The potential of Takaful-The EU perspective” highlighted the drivers and markets for potential growth and the regulatory and accounting challenges in the EU
A second task was to contribute a chapter on Microtakaful to 'Mutual Insurance and Takaful' that will be published by the WB at the end of 2011. The chapter identifies Microtakaful as a key element of a poverty alleviation strategy. The provider of Microtakaful policies ought to offer benefits to the Microfinance institutions (MFIs) by securing their revolving funds and to the insured by securing the payment to the MFI in case of disability and death as well as additional benefit for the decease family. In addition, the provider of Microtakaful can offer products for education and pension to the insured
